Mr. Longo recently made his Lincoln Center debut with New York Lyric Opera Theatre in a production of Puccini’s Il Trittico. He has been receiving many accolades for his extraordinary orchestral pianistic skills and his sensitive artistry. Mr. Longo has served as Assistant music director/vocal coach at Sarasota Opera, Tri-Cities Opera, Indianapolis Opera and DiCapo Opera Theater in New York City and the Tuscia Opera Festival in Viterbo, Italy. Recent productions include Puccini’s La Fanciulla Del West, Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman, Puccini’s La Boheme, Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Verdi’s Il Trovatore, Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana, Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci, Ward’s The Crucible, Rossini’s La Cenerentola, and Massenet’s Cendrillon. Mr. Longo was born and raised in Montreal, Canada by a family of Italian immigrants, who raised him with Italian as his primary language. His grandfather, being the only musician in the family, introduced opera into his life. Opera has now become his passion. He attended both French and English schools, and is trilingual. Giovanni attended McGill University and graduated with a Bachelors and Masters degree in Piano Performance. He specialized in the works of Rachmaninoff. He studied with Richard Raymond and Michael McMahon. Giovanni specializes in the verismo works of Puccini and Verdi for which he feels a high level of affinity. In the instrumental world, Giovanni is highly sought after for chamber music as well. He currently resides in New York City where he has enjoys a successful coaching studio and continues to work with opera companies nationally and internationally. Future engagements include the Narnia Vocal Arts Festival in Narni, Italy in the summer of 2014.
