- Gothenburg University Sweden
Marit Sjödin is a devoted chamber musician and has performed many concerts and tours with a variety of ensembles over the years.
Born in Uppsala, where she started her musical training, Marit went on to complete a Master of Fine Arts in Music at the University of Gothenburg. Following this, she undertook three years of postgraduate study in Paris, where she was awarded the highest accolades in both solo cello performance and chamber music. In 2004 she was Artist in Residence at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada.
In addition to the Scandinavian countries, Marit has performed in France, Germany, Belgium, Estonia, Portugal, and Canada. She has been working with many of Sweden’s professional orchestras, such as the Gothenburg and Malmö Opera Orchestras, Malmö and Helsingborg Symphony Orchestras and The Swedish Chamber Orchestra, and she now plays regularly for chamber music societies and festivals. Her wide-ranging musicality has led to many successful collaborations with jazz musicians, actors, and dancers, where performances have explored experimental improvisation and acting. She also has a particular passion for women composers from different centuries, often playing their repertoire at her chamber music concerts, in ensembles such as Nordic Art Trio, Trio Netzel and Duo Tempra, three groups which regularly produce new music programs and shows.
Marit is a certified Suzuki cello teacher from the European Suzuki Association and graduated as a cello teacher from the University of Gothenburg. She has many years of experience teaching at several levels, from beginners to more advanced students, and for all ages, from 6 years to adults.
