Silvia Duran is Choreographer, Teacher, Dancer and Castanet Soloist.
She is Commander of the Order of Civil Merit, bestowed on her in 2008 by HM King Juan Carlos of Spain for her service to the Spanish Nation.
In 2004 she received the Rosenblum Prize for the Theatre Arts Life Achievement Award.
Silvia Duran has toured the world performing as soloist with the foremost Spanish Dance Companies (Antonio, Luisillo, Carmen Mora, Paco Ruiz, Fernando Belmonte to mention only a few) in the world’s most prestigious theatres.
She has been choreographer for the Teatro Real in Madrid for the production of Bizet’s Carmen and Mozart’s “Marriage of Figaro” performing as soloist with Antonio Marquez, at the Los Angeles Opera under the direction of Placido Domingo and at the New Israel Opera in Tel Aviv.
She performed with her Company in the Haiyuza Theatre in Tokyo, collaborating with Yoko Komatsubara and Tali Roth in “Andalucia lejana” and later bringing the production to Israel for the “Festival Tel Aviv Dance 2009”.
In 2010 she was invited to perform at the prestigious “Festival de Flamenco de Jerez” in the series “Con Nombre Propio” devoted to 5 legends of Flamenco where she shared the spotlight with Matilde Coral, Victoria Eugenia, La Sallago and Jose Luis Balau.
Silvia Duran is currently based in Tel Aviv, where she directs her Dance Company and School.
She gives master classes in Flamenco and Castanet playing as well as recitals worldwide.
THE COMPANY
The Silvia Duran Spanish Dance Company was founded in 1984. It is the First Spanish Dance and Flamenco Company in Israel.
The Company performs in Israel and abroad with great acclaim.
THE SCHOOL
The Silvia Duran Spanish Dance School was founded in 1977. It is the First School of Spanish Dance and Flamenco in Israel – where generations of professional dancers have been educated.
